Y Bwrdd Iechyd yn talu teyrnged i arweinydd nyrsys ysbrydoledig / Health Board pays tribute to inspirational nurse leader

GYDA thristwch mawr hoffai Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Hywel Dda gadarnhau bod Mrs Carol Cotterell, ein Cyfarwyddwr Cynorthwyol Nyrsio yn Ysbyty’r Tywysog Philip yn Llanelli, wedi marw’n ddiweddar ar 13 Rhagfyr 2020.

Roedd Mrs Cotterell yn gydweithiwr a lwyddodd i ennyn parch ac edmygedd mawr yn y bwrdd iechyd a’r GIG drwy gydol ei gyrfa nodedig ym maes nyrsio.

Meddai Mandy Rayani, Cyfarwyddwr Nyrsio, Ansawdd a Phrofiad y Claf: “Ar ran y bwrdd, hoffwn estyn fy nghydymdeimlad dwysaf â theulu Mrs Cotterell ar yr adeg anodd hon.

“Fe wnes i gwrdd â Mrs Cotterell gyntaf yn 1988 pan oedd yn uwch-nyrs, a thros y degawdau dangosodd dro ar ôl tro ei chymeriad, ei phroffesiynoldeb a’i thosturi a oedd yn sicrhau gofal o’r safon uchaf i gleifion. Dylanwadodd yr ethos hwnnw’n barhaol ar bawb a oedd yn ei hadnabod ac a fu’n cydweithio â hi.”

“Mae’r hyn a gyflawnodd ac a gyfrannodd Carol er budd y GIG, ei chydweithwyr a’i chleifion ar hyd y blynyddoedd wedi bod yn rhagorol, ac ni fyddwn yn anghofio hynny. Yn anad dim byddwn yn cofio ei hymroddiad i ofal iechyd, ei chyngor a’i harweiniad hael i’w chydweithwyr, a’i hymwneud â’r Gymdeithas Cyfeillion dros gyfnod o flynyddoedd lawer, yn enwedig yn Ysbyty’r Tywysog Philip ac Ysbyty Cyffredinol Glangwili. Yn ogystal â’i llwyddiannau proffesiynol rhagorol niferus, buodd Mrs Cotterell yn ymwneud yn uniongyrchol â’r gwaith o recriwtio nyrsys Ffilipino i orllewin Cymru a’u cynorthwyo, ac roedd ganddi ddiddordeb parhaus yn natblygiad eu gyrfa ac yn y cymorth personol a gâi ei gynnig iddynt.”

Meddai Maria Battle, Cadeirydd Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Hywel Dda: “Roedd pobl ledled Cymru a thu hwnt yn gwybod am enw da Mrs Cotterell. Rydym yn cydymdeimlo’n ddidwyll iawn â’i theulu a’i chydweithwyr ac yn diolch am ei gwasanaeth ymroddedig a rhagorol i gymaint o bobl.”

Gall cydweithwyr sydd am rannu neges bersonol o ddiolch ebostio eu neges i Loved.Forever.HDD@wales.nhs.uk, a bydd yn cael ei chynnwys mewn llyfr coffa a gaiff ei rannu â theulu Mrs Cotterell. Bydd cerbydau’r angladd yn mynd heibio i Ysbyty’r Tywysog Philip cyn yr angladd a gynhelir fore dydd Iau 31 Rhagfyr. Er mai munud o dawelwch a geir fel rheol ar achlysuron fel hyn, mae teulu Mrs Cotterell yn teimlo y byddai cymeradwyaeth yn ffordd addas o ddathlu ei bywyd. Hoffem atgoffa pawb yn garedig i lynu bob amser wrth y rheolau ynghylch cadw pellter cymdeithasol.

It is with great sadness that Hywel Dda University Health Board confirms the recent death of Mrs Carol Cotterell, Assistant Director of Nursing based at Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli, on 13th December 2020.

Mrs Cotterell was a much respected and admired colleague within the health board and the NHS during throughout her remarkable nursing career.

Mandy Rayani, Director of Nursing, Quality & Patient Experience said: “On behalf of the health board I offer my heartfelt condolences to Mrs Cotterell’s family at this difficult time.

“I first met Mrs Cotterell in 1988 when she was a senior nurse and over the decades she demonstrated time and time again the character, professionalism and compassion that ensured the best standards of care for patients. This ethos had a lasting impact on all who knew her and worked with her.”

“Carol’s achievements and contribution to the NHS, her colleagues and patients over many years have been outstanding and will not be forgotten. She will be particularly remembered for her dedication to healthcare, her unstinting advice and guidance to colleagues, and her involvement with the League of Friends over many years, particularly at Prince Philip Hospital and Glangwili General Hospital. As well as her many outstanding professional attainments, Mrs Cotterell was also directly involved with the recruitment and support of Filipino nurses to west Wales and her interest in their career pathway and personal support never waned.”

Maria Battle, Chair of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “Mrs Cotterell’s reputation stretched across Wales and beyond. We send our sincerest condolences to her family and colleagues and give thanks for her dedicated and outstanding service to so many.”

Colleagues wishing to share a personal message of thanksgiving can email their message to Loved.Forever.HDD@wales.nhs.uk and they will be included in a remembrance book to be shared with Mrs Cotterell’s family. The funeral cortege will pass by Prince Philip Hospital before the funeral on the morning of Thursday 31st December. While a moment of silence is traditional on such occasions, Mrs Cotterell’s family believe that applause would be a suitable way to celebrate her life. People are respectfully reminded to maintain social distancing at all times.
