After Urdd 2024, attention turns to next year’s event to be hosted in Margam

More than 400 pupils from Neath Port Talbot schools took part in the 2024 National Urdd Eisteddfod at Meifod which ended last week.
One of Europe’s largest annual youth festivals, this year’s Urdd was held between May 27th and June 1st on land near Welshpool.
This year the Urdd celebrated a record-breaking 100,454 young people registering to compete in more than 400 competitions including more Welsh learners than ever before.

Of the many accomplished singers, dancers and other entrants from Neath Port Talbot one of the stand-out performances came from Ystalyfera Uwchradd (Secondary Sector) Girls’ Singing Group (Parti Merched) which won FIRST prize in the category.

A Neath Port Talbot Council spokesperson said: “I’d like to congratulate all of our representatives who won their way through local heats in big numbers to compete on a national level at this iconic festival of literature, music and performing arts.
“It was also pleasing to see a large number of qualifiers for the Urdd Eisteddfod from Neath Port Talbot in Welsh Learner categories.
“In Neath Port Talbot we are now looking forward to our pupils competing at the Urdd Eisteddfod in Margam Country Park which will be held between May 26th and May 31st, 2025.”

At the end of this year’s Urdd, Llio Maddocks, Director of the Arts, Urdd Gobaith Cymru said: “Eisteddfod yr Urdd is a cultural highlight of our Welsh calendar, and festivals such as ours deserve to be enjoyed by all.

“Ensuring opportunities and experiences for competitors and visitors who are new Welsh speakers is crucial to the success and legacy of our youth festival. We look forward with confidence to Eisteddfod yr Urdd Dur a Môr at Margam Park, Neath Port Talbot in 2025.”
