Welsh Lib Dems say “Vaughan Gething must go” following no-confidence vote

Today (5th June 2024) the Welsh Liberal Democrats have called for the resignation of the First Minister Vaughan Gething following the result of the no confidence motion this afternoon.

The leader of the Liberal Democrats Jane Dodds MS voted in favour of the motion, which was passed by a margin of 29 votes for and 27 against.

Speaking after the result, the Mid and West Wales MS urged the First Minister to step down from office after “losing the mandate of the Senedd.”

The Welsh Lib Dems have also described any efforts from the First Minister to hold onto power as going “against the established norms of our parliamentary democracy.”

Commenting, the Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats Jane Dodds MS said:

“The Senedd has spoken and now Vaughan Gething must go.

Any attempts of holding onto power would go against the established norms of our parliamentary democracy.

Without the mandate of the Senedd, the First Minister has no right to stay in office, Welsh democracy has had its say and now he must go.”
